"What we wanna try to do with this album is we do want to hone it back down to drums, bass, guitar and vocals and the best songs that we can write and the freshest songs we can write with the most tenacity and the most ferociousness that we can express. "We've kind of proven that we can make these very large records, these very cinematic, orchestrated records with this wall of sound," he said. In September 2020, Smith told the KLOS radio show "Whiplash" that he and Bass were looking to make a more organic-sounding album this time around. This past August, Smith said that the first single from SHINEDOWN's seventh studio album would arrive in January 2022. So we've got a couple of tweaks here and there, but you're gonna get a new SHINEDOWN record early 2022. We're finishing up a couple of things as far as the mastering is concerned with our boy Ted Jensen, who's a mastering engineer in Nashville. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "I can tell everybody right now, 'cause people have been asking about it. SHINEDOWN frontman Brent Smith offered an update on the new LP's recording sessions in an interview with Rock Titan TV. The follow-up to 2018's "Attention Attention" was recorded in part at a new studio in Charleston, South Carolina spearheaded by the group's bassist and producer Eric Bass. “It’s about a unity, a brotherhood,” says Smith, “and about sharing what we’ve all been through and being able to take it to the stage.SHINEDOWN has completed recording and mixing its seventh studio album for an early 2022 release. The constant nearness has turned the group into a close-knit family. In a way, I feel like I took what they couldn’t talk about and hopefully I wrote down what they felt.”Ĭurrently riding the nation’s highways, Shinedown found the time to deliver an iTunes EP in June (featuring two versions of recent fave “I Dare You”) and is gearing up for a fall tour supporting Godsmack and Rob Zombie. “There are so many songs about fans and the people I talked to, and their lives and their relationships. “I had more to talk about on the second record,” Smith says. The Jacksonville, Fla.-based outfit, riding the crest of its ubiquitous radio single, “Fly from the Inside,” has garnered favorable comparisons to everyone from 3 Doors Down and Nickelback to Alice in Chains and Alter Bridge, but Us and Them (a pointed reference to the close relationship Shinedown has with its fans) finds them carving out their own identity. “We took two weeks off and then went right back into the studio,” affirms Smith. Indeed, after a solid 23 months of touring behind debut album Leave a Whisper (Atlantic), the group - singer Brent Smith, guitarist Jasin Todd, bassist Brad Stewart and drummer Barry Kerch - barely took enough time to do their laundry before hitting the studio for the follow-up, last year’s Us and Them. Pounding out over 200 concerts a year is probably one of the quickest ways for a group to either make it or break it: You’re either demonstrating some pretty solid chops as a band to be reckoned with, or you’re exposing yourselves as never-will-be’s.įor the four members of melodic hard-rock band Shinedown, life on the road has definitely landed them in the former category.
